Bridging Traditions
Integrative Panchakarma, TCM, and the Endocannabinoid System
May 2-4, 2025
National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) Conference
In this 2025 NAMA presentation, Dr. Satya Shiva draws on over two decades of experience in Panchakarma and integrative detoxification to explore the convergence of Eastern medical systems with emerging biomedical insights. Her talk highlights how the endocannabinoid system (ECS) mirrors key regulatory principles found in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, particularly in the realms of digestive integrity, lipid metabolism, and systemic balance. Through a synthesis of clinical experience and original research, she offered a model of Panchakarma that incorporates TCM diagnostics, ECS modulation, and seasonal rhythms. The takeaways include a call for whole-system, relational research approaches and a vision of collaborative, ethically grounded care.
Fierce Compassion
Comprehensive Dzogchen Chöd Training
June 9 – October 13, 2025
with Tulku Pema Khandro, PhD.
& BSI Faculty: Aruna Rig’dzin & Satya Shiva
Dr. Satya serves as a senior faculty member in the Buddhist Studies Institute’s Comprehensive Chöd Training Program—an in-depth, lineage-based transmission of the Dzogchen Chöd tradition, led by Tulku Pema Khandro, Ph.D. This five-month course offers a rare opportunity to study the full arc of Chöd practice, including its ritual, psychological, and philosophical dimensions. The training integrates chanting, movement, healing ritual, and contemplative methods for transforming fear, working with death, and awakening intrinsic wisdom. Satya supports the program through practice facilitation and retreat integration.
